Energy Star Benchmarking - How Do You Compare?

The Energy Star Benchmarking report is the starting point for your business to begin saving natural resources and money.  Compare and benchmark the energy use of one, or a portfolio of all of your facilities to the EPA’s Energy Star Database and receive an energy use intensity (EUI) report. Track and report cost savings and GHG emissions, Establish Baselines, Set Goals, Track & Measure over time and Verify Gains from upgrade efforts.

Why Benchmark?

  • - Make more informed decisions
  • - Assess operational effectiveness
  • - Identify under-performing facilities
  • - Set investment priorities
  • - Be more responsive
  • - Verify and track progress of projects
  • - Assist in the planning process

Energy Star is a partnership between business and government which provides an established framework to promote the environmental and financial benefits of improved energy performance.  The Energy Star Benchmarking tool then automatically calculates the Energy Utilization Index (EUI) and allows you to compare your facility to a national average, and to determine if energy savings opportunities exist.

Energy Star Benchmarking:

- Is an industry accepted tool
- Utilizes extensive research and databases
- Is an objective, unbiased analytical tool
- Is an internationally recognized symbol
- Uses weather normalized and standardized metrics.

Porfolio Benchmarking allows you to compare energy use among the divisions of your business, or to similar businesses. Energy use data for other types of industries is also available.  Set benchmarks for your facilities based on the site efficiency factors calculated from utility bill data and site demographics.  Bring accountability to site personnel by providing a comparison of their site to your other facilities.

Automated Energy Star Benchmarking is available on a monthly basis, as well, where we can provide data entry for your bills and automatically transmit your energy usage data to Energy Star to receive your Benchmarking results.  Lets you keep track of your progress towards Energy Star labeling and saving money.

Example Requirements:

  • At least 12 months of previous utility bills
  • Square footage of your building, number of employees, number of computers, hours of operation, and a few business specific questions depending on your industry.

The Energy report will provide the following for your building:

  • EPA's Energy Star rating
  • Carbon footprint
  • Energy saving opportunities
  • Energy savings strategy for the future

Investment starts at $295/per location
